​Studies show that practicing yoga can increase bone density if done consistently and properly. Yoga also improves balance and flexibility, which can prevent falls and therefore prevent fractures. Learn the latest on  yoga’s ability to strengthen bones as we age!  Lecture and practice.

HEALTHY BACK: WORKING WITH THE PIRIFORMIS

Often times back pain is not a result of trouble with the spine, but a little known muscle in your buttocks: the piriformis.  It’s a small muscle, but a major player in the health of your lower back.  Lengthening and strengthening the piriformis can bring low back relief, but can be tricky to figure out.  Baxter Bell shows you how to address the piriformis for ongoing back health.

The brain gets so much attention these days concerning cognitive health, it is easy to forget that the brains integrates with the entire body via the nervous system.  Although “brain exercises” like doing crossword puzzles, learning a new language or musical instrument to support cognitive health are helpful, it is equally important to work with the entire nervous system. Baxter will unpack the components of the system and how each operates, then offer a yoga practice for the  health of the nervous system.

Inflammation is your body's attempt to protect and heal itself from things that harm it, like infections, injuries, and toxins,   But chronic inflammation may have a negative impact on your tissues and organs, and has been found to play a role in a range of conditions, from cancer to osteoarthritis to stroke.  Learn how yoga can help.  Go home with practice tools for maintenance of joint health.

HEALTHY LYMPHATIC SYSTEM: SUPPORTING IMMUNITY

For many, the body’s lymphatic system is a bit of a mystery. In this workshop, Baxter will explore this unique part of our selves, revealing the structure and function of these wispy vessels and their connection to our overall health and well-being. Includes a talk on lymphatics and a special yoga practice that helps keep the system doing what it needs to do to support immune health.

11.20  | 2-4pm  Many of us hold most our tension in our neck. Learn how to release and strengthen this vital, vulnerable part of the body. We'll look at common conditions such as "tech neck" and arthritis. Not appropriate for students with acute or flared injuries.​

Carry the weight of the world on your shoulders? Spend hours at the computer? Shoulder discomfort, injuries (including rotator cuff strains) and reduced range of motion can result. Learn how to prevent future injuries, find release, and feel greater lightness and ease.​​

The lower back tends to give us human's more trouble than any other part of the body.  This session will introduce us to healthy anatomy and function of the back and ways of improving strength and mobility of the lumbar spine. Not appropriate for those in acute pain.

Summer=heat.  In this 2-part three hour workshop Baxter addresses inflammation.  Part one will cover inflammation in the era of Covid19, including some promising breath work to optimize lung health. Part two covers the ubiquitous osteoarthritis, its connection to inflammation, how yoga can help and practice tools for ongoing general joint health.
