"Our asana practice can continue to expand and grow as we age —  in fact many older students experience the thrill of doing things for the first time in their 50s, 60s and 70s." ~ ann dyer cervantes

Ann's new Deep Dive Series unpacks hallmark yoga poses so we may enjoy the journey as much as the destination.  "Whether you master the pose or not, working toward the pose brings opening, strengthening and aligning of your body and perspective in new, exciting ways.  Think of these poses as tools for growth, not performances."   In her new series Ann methodically deconstructs these poses associated with intermediate yoga, offering new approaches and knowledgable support to lead you toward them safely and pleasurably.   Discover the satisfaction of opening to new possibilities in your practice and your life.

URDVHA DHANURASANA
BACKBEND OR WHEEL
sat MAR 18th  | 2-4PM

Urdhva dhanurasana, sometimes called wheel or backbend, is one of yoga's most exhilarating postures.  In this workshop we will systematically deconstruct this challenging posture, building understanding while preparing the key areas of opening and power required to free it.  Whether or not you attain the final pose isn't as important as the opening that occurs in moving toward its execution. That said, with knowledge, support and patience you just may find yourself doing something you never thought possible!

CATARANGA
FOUR LIMB STAFF POSE
sat APR 08 | 2-4pm
Many of us have spent years "faking" cataranga, and understandably — it's a hard pose learn how to do properly on the fly.  But  cataranga — along with its sister pose plank and all her variations —  not only stabilizes the shoulders, but is  one of the best core strengtheners there is.   Let's give cataranga is proper due, and have fun together nailing this one down, step by step!

LOTUS POSE
PADMASANA + IT'S RELATIVES
sat JUNE 17 | 2-4pm
OK, let's be honest.   Few of us are going to get into full lotus or have need to.  But developing a bodily understanding of this iconic pose is not only fun, but can help us with many other hip opening poses — including familiar standing poses, like warrior, and the many crossed-leg seated poses like siddhasana — which is pointed to by the ancient yogis as being the #1 most important asana!

HANDSTAND
ADHO MUKHA VRKASANA
sat JULY 15 | 2-4pm
Handstands — like cartwheels! —   are a symbol of  a carefree spirit.  In this workshop  we will methodically move  toward the light joyousness handstands can bring, opening the shoulders, strengthening the core, learning how to get into the pose and  feel safe while upside-down.  Whether or  not you reach the final pose, you can count on leaving class feeling light, energized and the thrill of trying something new!
