the mystery of indian music
with dhanashree pandit rai

Friday, January 20 7-8:30pm

What makes a tune sound Indian?  Visiting Hindustani vocalist and educator Dhanashree Pandit Rai demystifies the mystical aesthetics of Indian music through the sharing of basic concepts and approaches that distinguish it from Western music.   Through lecture, performance and participation, Dhanashree will unveil the components of Indian music, including raga and rasa,  responsible for its characteristic subtlety and spirtual aura of this art form with its roots in yoga.  Don't miss this extraordinary opportunity to enjoy the exquisite singing and effervescent personality of TEDtalk presenter Dhanashree Pandit Rai, direct from Mumbai, India.

Dhanashree Pandit Rai is a classical Indian vocalist and music educator based in Bombay who has been invited to the Bay Area this January to perform at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco.  She has  trained under the Kirana Gharana Pt. Firoz Dastur and Thumri legend Shobha Gurtu, and holds a Masters Degree in Hindustani Classical Indian Music. http://www.dhanashreepandit.com/
