intermediate practice:
inversions: headstand and shoulderstand
a 4-wk series w/jin sung - CANCELLED!

Can we develop the tools we need to engage in and benefit from a regular inversion practice? The answer is yes, we can find a way to practice headstand and shoulderstand by making necessary modifications and finding alternatives to cultivate their rich benefits.
There is so much more to look at in our approach to headstand and shoulderstand than "put you hands here, your head here, and your elbows there". We will explore giving practitioners the means to begin approaching the poses in a way to maximize benefit and minimize potential injury. In some cases these asana in their classical forms aren't appropriate for individuals and we will look to ways to use alternatives. Classes will consist of preparation and conditioning, exploration of modifications and use of props, and understanding the spine in these two key poses.
The classes will be geared for a wide range of practitioners with a diverse backgrounds and abilities, however not suitable for beginners. A minimum of two years asana experience recommended.
Jin Sung is the Owner/Director of Oakland Yoga Studio and yoga teacher extraordinaire. We give Jin Sung a big MYoga welcome, and are delighted to now have him as a regular visiting teacher at the studio.
