A sutra is a thread that runs through and brings together. It is also a concise compositional form used in many Indian texts, as in the famous Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. In this 10-week series we will bring the many threads of yoga practice (e.g., asana, chant, pranayama, pratyahara, visualization, deep listening, and philosophical study) and key lessons of the Yoga Sutra into a strong rope of personal practice we can hold onto for steadiness and direction in our lives.
The Intermediate Practice Series is designed for experienced yoga practitioners who are interested in deepening their asana practice, while learning more about the role of asana plays in the larger tradition of yoga. Challenges experienced in transitioning into an intermediate asana practice are covered, like how to approach deep squats, full backbends, inversions, balances and more. Included are the more subtle practices that traditionally follow asana, including pranayama, chant, and meditation. In addition, you will learn about the origins of hatha yoga and the many ways in which it has been adapted throughout the years.
Ann Dyer is the director of Mountain Yoga and a member of the faculty of the Piedmont Yoga Deep Yoga teacher training and Graduate programs. Ann's teaching includes attention to alignment established in her foundational training in Iyengar yoga as well as an appreciation of the energetic body cultivated through other schools of yoga, ayurveda, a degree in psychology and her extensive work in naada yoga, the yoga of sound.
