The continuous flow of vinyasa yoga has many benefits: creating warmth in the muscles, increasing circulation, regulating the breath, burning off nervous energy, and calmling the the mind, to name a few. But for many these benefits come at a cost.
Problems resulting from excessive repetitive actions and faulty alignment arising from improper execution of vinyasa can result in blown-out shoulders, stressed spines, and aggravated wrists. In this workshop vinyasa practitioner Elyse Hochstadt will conscientiously take us through the key actions of a vinyasa practice, teaching us the keys to maintaining a sustainable vinyasa practice that will have us reaping the rewards with none of the worries.
In this workshop we will:
• Look at the history, characteristics and benefits of method of practice called Vinyasa Krama, first popularized by 20th century yogi Krishnamacharya.
• Discuss the myriad ways in which Vinyasa is currently being defined and implemented in classrooms throughout the West.
• Analyze and practice sequences to illuminate participants' questions and areas if interest.
All levels are welcome (familiarity with basic postures and names helpful.) Bring your questions, and beginners mind!
