Writing — like yoga — can transform your life!
Yoga is not only asana, the physical postures, but a spiritual practice to help us transform our lives.  In this Yoga of Writing series, we will explore writing as a practice of liberation and transformation.  For this series on the Yoga of Writing I chose three extraordinary Bay Area writers I admire greatly to join me in sharing their creative processes for delving into writing as a spiritual practice: Christopher P. Delorenzo, Helen Konaris and Jane Brunette.  With guidance, you can access your authentic voice, tell your story, and discover ways to bring your writing — and yourself! — more fully alive.                                                                                                                                                                                            ~ Nina Schnall, Artistic Director

INTRO TO WRITING AS SPIRITUAL PRACTICE

Writing is a way — as Buddhist writer Natalie Goldberg has said — to break through “inertia and become awake.”  Thru
gentle movement, conscious breathing and creative writing exercises Nina shows us how to clear the way for the play of  imagination and awakening  presence.

WHEN MY BODY SPEAKS

The body is a sacred place. It holds memory. It is the site of ancient story and dream and myth. Yet sometimes it is hard to access our connection to the divine within.  Through movement, breath, journeys into the imaginal realm, and creative writing prompts we record  our own embodied wisdom.

WRITING AS A
WAY THRU GRIEF

Writing helps us make sense out of suffering, and gives shape and meaning to the the experience of loss. Since 2009, Christopher has led workshops using writing as a therapeutic tool, utilizing the Amherst Writers and Artists method (AWA) of spontaneous writing exercises, voluntary reading, and positive feedback to heal and make peace with  this universal experience.

WRITING FROM THE SOUL

Psychotherapist and Buddhist teacher Jane Brunette teaches principles and practices for accessing the meditative mind for deeply expressive writing.   In a Jane's welcoming space of non-judgement,  we will learn to loosen the grip of the critical mind and open to the mystery that lies beyond.  Evocative "free-write"  prompts will guide the process.
