We’ve been living in turbulent times: Covid, political unrest, fires, unbreathable air, financial uncertainty are shaking the foundations of our lives, and the effects can be felt in our bodies. Our nervous systems are wired to respond to immediate danger and may automatically react in ways that don’t serve us today. In this workshop we will use writing, asana, breath and rhythm to face and transform fear and vulnerability, opening to the possibilities of connection, comfort and inspiration. We’ll use writing
prompts and free writing to put feeling to words and movement practice to transform the way we feel in our bodies.

NINA SCHNALL's   writing workshops are informed by 20 years of writing, yoga and movement practice. As a recent cancer survivor, she has used these three tools to recover, heal, and return to life.  Her embodied writing workshops help people find their voice, discover their story, and heal. Nina has an MA in Cultural Anthropology from UCSC and an MFA in Writing and Consciousness from CIIS. She is the Artistic Director of the Yoga of Writing series at Mountain Yoga..

Melting polar ice caps, devastating forest fires, flooding, drought, species on the verge of extinction: we are inundated every day with information about how our planet is suffering from climate change.

We need ways to address this eco-grief, to acknowledge and express our deep feelings of loss, and to share this with others. This workshop will give us a safe space to do just that.

Using the Amherst Writers and Artists method (AWA)—free writing and voluntarily sharing our work out loud—we'll explore this grief in the written word, discover coping strategies, find inspiration in the heroic work of others, and map our way forward in a rapidly changing world.
