MYoga's new Purva Karma is a detoxifying, health-supporting 4-day cleanse that combines dietary recommendations, light yoga and a fleet of restoring wellness treatments to re-boot your well-being. Purva Karma is the preliminary section of the highly touted three-week Pancha Karma — the dramatic, three-week cleanse traditionally engaged in annually by adherents of ayurveda, India's ancient wellness system. While many of us dream of indulging in the 21-day process of Pancha Karma, few of us have the time or the resources for such a commitment. The MYoga Four-day Purva Karma offers a happy compromise, a way to address your well-being in a meaningful way over the course of a long weekend, right here in your own backyard. Your Purva Karma Four-Day Cleanse begins with an initial one-on-one consultation with our in-house ayurvedic therapist in which you will receive a customized four-day regiment of dietary recommendations, prescribed yoga, and a fleet of rejuvenating wellness treatments. At the end of your revivifying four days you will meet again with our practitioner for a closing consultation to help guide you in sustaining your fresh start as you move forward.
Over the course of your four-day cleanse you will be participating in a traditional ayurvedic monodiet of kitchari. Kitchari is a delicious East Indian, vegetarian rice and beans dish that provides complete protein while allowing the digestive track to "rest." You will receive four days of one-pot, pre-packaged kitchari you can prepare at home — just add water. In addition, during your initial consultation you will receive other food recommendations to augment your kitchari diet over the course of the four days.
Abhyanaga, or oil-based massage, is the foundation of wellness treatments in the ayurvedic system. On a purely physical level, oil-based massages have been found to soften tight and knotted muscles, nourish the skin (including reducing post-surgery adhesions and swelling), improve range of motion, reduce low back pain and stimulate lymph flow. Moreover, oil-based massage greatly benefits our mind and disposition as it's been shown to be not only deeply relaxing but to enhance sleep, release endorphins (the body's natural painkillers), improve concentration, reduce depression and anxiety, lower stress hormones in people with high blood pressure, and even reduce incidences of migraine headache.
Dry sweat is a new addition to the menu of wellness services offered at MYoga. Performed by layering warm towels on the body to induce a mild sweat, Dry Sweat has many benefits including improving digestive capacity, reducing fatigue, removing stiffness and increasing a sense of aliveness in the body.
Light yoga can contribute to the success of the cleansing process. At the time of your intake our ayurvedic consultant will recommend which yoga classes being offered at MYoga are recommended for you over the course of your four-day cleanse. Depending on the schedule of events at the studio, this could also include meditation and chanting. (Please note, since most of our wellness room clients are MYoga members and class series students, the cost of yoga class is NOT included in the Purva Karma package.)
