water: meditation-in-asana
a seasonal series with mary paffard
Saturday, August 6 — 2:00-6:00pm
Mountain Yoga is delighted to welcome esteemed yoga and meditation instructor Mary Paffard for WATER: Meditation-in-Asana, the latest in her seasonal series of workshops that draw on meditation, asana and the five elements. Mary has chosen water as her inspiration for the month of August to counter the heat and dryness of summer. Throughout the world and the ages, water has been a symbol for fluidity, sensuality, creation, and the unconsciousness.
In this workshop Mary will employ the imagery of water, active and passive asana and breath work to cultivate the meditative aspect of yoga. Together you will address the question what does yoga as meditation really mean? How can one cultivate kindness and ease in the posture and a moment to moment awareness in even the most challenging of asanas? How does meditation help bring our practice off the mat and into our day to day lives?
Mary shares the gems that her study of Buddhism and many cycles of retreat and silence have brought to her asana. Each workshop uses one of the five elements as a guiding theme. Workshops may be taken individually, although registration in the complete series is strongly recommended in order to reap the full benefit of the teachings. One year yoga experience recommended.
Mary Paffard had beem practicing yoga asana since the early 70s. Ten years later she discovered Buddhist Vipassna meditation, which radically changed her yoga practice and teaching. Having completed Spirit Rock's 2-year Dedicated Practitioners Program in 2006, Mary includes meditation and silence in many of her workshops, and teaches yoga asana on meditation retreats of senior vipassna teachers. www.maryyoga.com
